Add-in to find and change broken links in Excel workbooks and worksheets. Can search and modify links in closed Excel workbooks.

Link Finder is an add-in for Microsoft Excel 2007, Excel 2003, Excel 2002 (XP), Excel 2000, and Excel 97.

Link Finder in detail

The Link Finder is an Excel add-in that helps you quickly and easily find links to other Excel workbooks. It can even find and modify links in closed workbooks. Many companies use it when they move Excel users from one server to another.


Link Finder for Excel options:

  • Search for links in the active workbook
  • List links in all open workbooks
  • Change links in the active workbook
  • List intra workbook links (sheet to sheet)
  • Search closed Excel files for links
  • Change links in closed workbooks
  • Search Visual Basic modules in closed files for links
  • View name of the last Excel file processed by above 3 options (Useful if corrupted file caused Excel to crash or if Excel runs out of memory processing files)
  • Safe workbook open


Options you have if you are searching a file for links

  • Search everything - cells, charts, objects, etc
  • Search all worksheets' cells
  • Search just the active worksheet's cells
  • Prompt for action
  • Color matching cells
  • List matches
  • Automatically delete all matching found
  • Automatically convert ALL cell matches found to values


The drop down box allows you to select any linked Excel workbook or to type in all or part of a workbook's name to find related links. If you have links that you can't find, you can find them with the Link Finder for Excel. You can also delete them either automatically or on a case by case base.

The Link Finder also creates reports that list the links in the active workbook and in any closed workbook.

Please note that the license agreement* on the Link Finder is per user who benefits. If used to modify links in workbooks belonging to other users, a license is needed for each such user. Site licenses are available.

*Actual license text specific to the Link Finder: "A license is required for each person who uses or whose workbooks are examined or modified from the use of the Link Finder. For example, licenses are required for every person who a support person using this software for in order to find or fix links in those persons' files. If only a single license is purchased, it may only be used to find or fix links in that person's files."
