How Random Generator for Excel works
The Random Generator for Microsoft Excel pane contains 6 handy groups: Integer, Real, Date, Boolean, Custom list and Strings. All you need is to select a range, expand the appropriate section and choose the settings. The plug-in will fill the range or the entire Excel worksheet with random entries, providing you with values from sample data to equations. Last but not least, you can choose to generate only unique numbers, dates or custom list characters at random on the fly.
Generate unique random numbers
Any time you need random integers or real numbers, you can use the first two sections. Expanding them you pick the initial and final digits and click Generate. You will get them randomized in a blink. It may be useful if you need to set random order of something or get sample test data.
Get occasional dates
You can also use this tool to get random dates in your table. So if you need to appoint people on duty, no one will be offended cause the choice will be truly unbiased. Simply expand the Date section and set the initial and final dates in the From and To fields respectively. Plus it's possible to select workdays or weekends separately or in combination.
Get yes/no or true/false Booleans
Check out Random Generator as a randomizing device to get Booleans. Select the Boolean option on the pane to learn whether something is yes/no or true/false. Just pick the value you need from the drop down list and click Generate.
Populate your tables with unique custom list values
If you work with set lists, you'll appreciate the Custom List section. Here you get quick access to the existing lists and the possibility to create new ones in two clicks. It is possible to save students' or employees' names, cafes to go to lunch, dates or numbers, anything.
Generate strings of any pattern to get strong passwords, SKUs or codes
When you need to generate random passwords or Ids, go to Strings. You can get strings of any complexity with letters in upper or lower case, numbers, certain characters like punctuation marks, and Hexadecimals.
If you need strings with certain values, the Custom checkbox will let you enter them as well as use this option alone or in combination with other character sets.
You can also set the length of the string by entering the number of characters your string should contain in the String length field.
Or define any pattern using the By mask option. A question mark stands for one character. You can see and choose one of the default templates or enter yours.
As you can see, you can challenge Random Generator with your own task. This multifunctional Excel add-in presents you with extended generating capabilities for every occasion.
